The challenge

An agency site is judged on execution before anyone reads a word.

It also has to keep being updated by people who are not designers, which is where most beautiful agency sites quietly decay.

Opportunity

Put the standard in the components

If quality lives in the system rather than in individual layouts, editing cannot erode it.

The solution

A page system rather than a set of pages.

Sections that compose, with rules tight enough that a non-designer assembling a new page still gets a good one.

Design decision

Composable sections

New pages are assembled, not designed.

A constrained set of sections that combine predictably, so the range of possible pages is wide and the range of bad ones is narrow.

Design decision

Craft in what survives editing

Type, spacing and motion.

Detail was invested where it persists regardless of what content is swapped in.

Outcome

A site that holds its standard as content changes.

Because the standard is structural rather than editorial.
